A discussion of two letter and three letter Scrabble words, including a full list of 2-letter Scrabble words and their 3-letter plurals.Scrabble players have different levels of commitment. Novice players might enjoy a family game every holiday, or an occasional friendly game with a friend on a rainy night. Others might play more serious games, becoming part of an online Scrabble community. Still other Scrabble players compete in sanctioned Scrabble tournaments.
The first step a player takes when going from "friendly" games to competitive Scrabble is the learning of short words. Two-letter and three-letter words are key to help a Scrabble player improve their game. Memorizing the shortest words in the language help a player in both phases of Scrabble, offensively and defensively.
Short Word Strategies
The short word helps a player score big points in certain key situations, or when the opponent isn't leaving the Scrabble player many openings on the Scrabble board. More importantly, the short word lets a Scrabble player play defensive Scrabble, where the player can score a few points without giving the opponent an high-scoring opportunity.
Specifically, there are several key Scrabble moments when knowing a two-letter or three-letter word are important. Here are several strategies that the 2-letter word helps a Scrabble player master.
A parallel play is when a player is able to play a two-letter word down the length of a second word, effectively getting points for two short words.
Playing on a Blocked Board
If your opponent is playing solid defensive Scrabble, you might not have too many openings for long word. Knowing two-letter words keeps your opponent from blocking your upcoming moves. If you can squeeze in a two-letter word for two word scores or on a multiplying square, you'll be able to score while playing solid defense yourself.
